Pontifical High Mass at St. Peters
Just this past Sunday, May 15th, there was a Pontifical High Mass at the altar of the Chair of Peter in St Peter's Basilica, Rome. All I can say is, wow! The Mass was beautiful and the choir sang some excellent selections (Palestrina's Sicut Cervus and Vittoria's Ave Maria, among others) -- although with a bit too much vibrato, IMHO...I suppose that could have actually been the reverberation time, and not vibrato, that I was hearing, but I believe it was vibrato).
Anyways, here are some photos from the Mass:
If you've ever been to St. Peter's, then you know that the distance from the Main Altar/baldacchino (seen in the above photo) to the Altar of the Chair of Peter is a bit of a loooong way...so you can see how well-attended the Mass was! Excellent! :)
I think he's whispering, "You know, we should, like, totally do this more often." =P
More photos can be found here. Hopefully this won't be the last time we see this at the Vatican. Just beautiful - Deo Gratias!
