A Roma: mercoledì 3 ottobre alle ore 18.00 presso la sala conferenze della sede della Fondazione Lepanto, in Piazza Santa Balbina 8, si terrà l’incontro con l’eminente teologo mons. Brunero Gherardini.

Gli ultimi due libri di mons. Gherardini: “Credo in Gesù Cristo. Meditazione teologica sul Cristo della Chiesa” (Edizioni VivereIn, Roma 2012) e “Il Vaticano II. Alle radici di un equivoco” (Lindau, Torino 2012) saranno presentati da Mons. Renzo Lavatori e dal prof. Roberto de Mattei.

A Prato: Sabato 6 ottobre alle ore 11 nei locali del Conservatorio di S. Niccolò (P.za Card. Niccolò da Parto n.6), si terrà un incontro culturale organizzato dalla Parrocchia del Sacro Cuore, con Mons. Brunero Gherardini, l'intervento di Mons. Gastone Simoni e l'analisi del Prof. Serafino Lanzetta, FFI, per presentare e discutere l'ultima opera dell'insigne Teologo: Credo in Gesù Cristo.

Sacra Liturgia 2013: Liturgical Conference in Rome

There is an excellent liturgical conference being planned in Rome, Sacra Liturgia: Culmen et Fons Vitae et Missionis Ecclesiae, which will take place from June 25-28, 2013 and NLM is proud that it has some participation in this. (More on that in a moment.)

The conference is described by the orgnanizers as "an international conference to study, promote and renew the appreciation of liturgical formation and celebration and its foundation for the mission of the Church, particularly in the light of the teaching and example of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI" and is being held under the guidance of the Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon, Monsignor Dominique Rey.

The conference will bring together a number of speakers who will be very familiar to NLM readers, including Cardinals Ranjith and Burke, Archbishop Di Noia, Monsignor Guido Marini, Monsignor Andrew Burnham, Dom Alcuin Reid, Fr. Uwe Michael Lang and NLM's own Jeffrey Tucker -- who will address a subject dear to NLM's heart and own mission, "The Liturgical Apostolate and the Internet." There are further names you will recognize, so do go and look at the list of speakers and the particular presentations each of them will speak upon.

The venue for the conference will be the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (“Santa Croce”).

Of course, what would a good liturgical conference be without "good liturgy" and so here is a description of what can be expected liturgically:

The conference will open with solemn vespers and conclude with solemn first Vespers of Saints Peter and Paul, Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Te Deum and Benediction.

On the first and second full days of the conference two solemn celebrations of the Mass will be organized, one according to the Missale Romanum 2002 another according to the Missale Romanum 1962. Appropriate prelates have been invited to celebrate and preach.

Participants have the option of celebrating the feast of Saints Peter and Paul with the Holy Father in St Peter’s Basilica on the morning of Saturday, 29th June.

Pilgrimage in Hungary

Our good friends over at the Capitulum Laicorum Sancti Michaelis Archangeli made certain to inform us of some recent events taking place in Catholic Hungary.

A pilgrimage was coordinated to Mátraverebély-Szentkút, the national Marian shrine of Hungary -- whose rector is very friendly to the usus antiquior we are told.

The pilgrimage was took place within the context of the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, beginning with the night office on Friday, a Solemn Pontifical Mass on Saturday and concluded with some popular liturgical and paraliturgical events, including folk vespers, a Marian litany, the Te Deum, and Benediction. (As a personal aside, I have met many of these folks when participating in a liturgical conference hosted a few years ago, and they are doing excellent work there.)

Here are just a few photos from the events. We have described these rites many times in the past, so I will let the photos just stand as they are, with a couple of notations.

El arzobispo electo de San Francisco oficia la Santa Misa Pontifical en la Forma Extraordinaria por la fundación de un nuevo Carmelo tradicional

El pasado viernes 21 de septiembre, festividad de San Mateo Apóstol, S. E. Mons. Salvatore J. Cordileone, arzobispo electo de San Francisco, California (EE.UU.), ofició la Santa Misa Pontifical, en la Forma Extraordinaria del Rito Romano, en la iglesia de Santa Mónica, en Moraga, California, con motivo de la nueva fundación del convento de Jesús, María y José, de Carmelitas Descalzas ligadas a la Liturgia tradicional. A la ceremonia asistieron unas 800 personas. El nuevo convento cuenta con cinco religiosas y otras cinco novicias. Catholic Voice

He has given his angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways. Let them thank the Lord for his mercy; his wonderful works are for the children of men. Let them give thanks and say among the nations, the Lord has done great things for them. O Lord, what is man that you have made yourself known to him, or why do you incline your heart to him? Angeles diversos están destinados a la custodia de los diversos hombres custodiados. El porqué de esto radica en que la guarda angélica es una ejecución de la divina Providencia sobre los hombres.: Pero la providencia que Dios tiene sobre los hombres es distinta de la que tiene sobre las otras criaturas corruptibles, por tener el hombre y las demás criaturas distinta relación a la incorruptibilidad, pues los hombres no sólo son incorruptibles en cuanto a su especie común, sino también en cuanto a sus propias formas singulares, que son las almas racionales, lo cual no puede decirse de las otras cosas corruptibles. Es evidente, por otra parte, que la providencia de Dios se ocupa principalmente de aquellas cosas que permanecen perpetuamente; en cambio, de las cosas transitorias se ocupa en cuanto las ordena a las perpetuas. Así, pues, la providencia de Dios está en relación con cada uno de los hombres en particular como está en relación con cada uno de los géneros o especies de las cosas corruptibles. Ahora bien, según Gregorio, diversos órdenes angélicos son destinados a los diversos géneros de cosas. Ejemplo: Las Potestades, a ahuyentar a los demonios; las Virtudes, a obrar milagros en las cosas corpóreas; y es también muy verosímil que estén destinados diversos ángeles de un mismo orden a la guarda de las diversas especies de seres.
